Rubanda District Engineer Arrested Over Shs. 70Million

Nobert Nzungu, the Rubanda district engineer has been arrested for failing to account for 70 million shillings from the Uganda roads fund.

Trouble for Nzungu begun on Monday during the Rubanda district Uganda roads fund meeting at the district that was chaired by the Fund chairperson Prossy Akampurira Begumisa who is also the Rubanda district woman Member of Parliament.

Hon Akampurira says this was the fifth meeting with the Engineer, as the last four were adjourned when he failed to account for the said money.

“In this meeting, he told us he actually didn’t have the accountability and we decided enough was enough. We couldn’t keep up with this.”

Kenneth Biryabarema, the Rubanda LC5 chairman says in the 2016/17 year, the district budgeted for 70 million shillings for three roads; Bugongi – Butambi, Ihunga –Ndego and Kagarama –Heisesero. He says the engineer was supposed to ensure completion of the roads and installation of culverts in Rubanda town council but none of this was done.

“In the last meeting we gave him time to give us the accountability after he told us that he wasn’t ready. Today he came back with nothing an exchange of words ensued before the RDC ordered for his arrest,” Said Biryabarema.

This is not the first time that engineer Nzungu has found himself in trouble. Last year he was accused by district leaders of misusing Shs 10million

The money in Question had been allocated to the construction of Kashasha Bridge in Bufundi Sub County.
