The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has on Tuesday announced that National team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has tested positive for COVID-19.
The 35-year-old is said to be “doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation”
The Juventus forward had played in both of Portugal’s matches so far during the international break and was in contention to play against Sweden on Wednesday before being dropped.
The development comes after a photo was posted on Monday by Ronaldo less on Twitter that showed him in close contact with his Portugal’s teammates gathered at a table for a meal without wearing masks.
“United on and off the field,” he tweeted. The federation has however said no other player has tested positive.
His availability is still unclear for the matches on Saturday against serie A opponent, Crotone and next week’s UEFA Champions League clash against Dynamo Kyiv.
