Singer Ronald Mayinja is being threatened with a lawsuit for allegedly using stolen footage for a song he recently composed for the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Mayinja days ago crossed from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to join the ruling party.
He even composed a new song titled ‘Mzee,’ praising the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni whom he had previously berated in other songs.
In the new song however, Mayinja is being accused of using footage from a media firm ML Media Lab limited without their consent for the video.
In a Notice of intention to sue issued by Media Lab lawyers of Walusimbi and Company Advocates, the singer was given five days to issue an apology for his actions on top of compensating them with Shs 370million.
“You infringed on our clients copy right on 30th October 2020 or thereabouts when you used our client’s footage and other artistic work depicting the recently Commissioned Kitooro Market at Entebbe in your trending Campaign song titled ‘Mzee'”the lawyers wrote.
In the same letter, Mayinja is being asked to pull down the video on various platforms to prevent further copyright infringement.
Mayinja has not yet responded to the allegations.
