A video clip has been circulating on social media in which Presidential Advisor on Ghetto Affairs, Mark Bugembe alias Buchaman and his group are seen assaulting artiste Fred Giriya aka Rocky Giant.
Following an outcry from musicians and the media fraternity for Buchaman to be reprimanded, Police has revealed that the victim, once invited to file a case against his tormentors, declined to do so, opting for the issue to be resolved “without involving the government.”
Speaking to the press at the Media Centre on Friday, Uganda Police Force Spokesperson Fred Enanga said that Fred Giriya, popularly known by his stage name Rocky Giant, was duly invited by the police to open a case of assault against the presidential envoy on ghetto affairs and his alleged accomplices.
“Rocky Giant, however, told our detectives that he wasn’t interested in the government getting involved in the case. He claimed that the case should be solved by themselves not by police,” said Enanga.
Enanga also revealed that Buchaman was interrogated and later released on police bond.
“Detectives are finding it hard to pursue a case when the complainant is unwilling to cooperate with police. When we tried to reach out to Giriya, he was in a bad state but we shall wait until he gets better then he can record his statement,” he added.
In the video clip, Buchaman and his group dressed in military uniforms were seen beating up Rocky Giant for allegedly moving around the slums in Katwe claiming to be the rightful president of the ghetto.
