Richard Ssemwogerere: Buikwe Red Stars Forward Succumbs to Hepatitis B

Richard “Banda” Semwogerere, a youthful striker for Buganda Regional League side Buikwe Red Stars Football Club has succumbed to a deadly Hepatitis B disease.

Semwogerere was bedridden for a couple of days and admitted at Angelina Hospital in Namugongo, Kira Municipality before he breathed his last on Friday afternoon.

Banda, as commonly known was a center forward for Buikwe Red Stars Football Club in the Buganda Regional League.

He previously played for Kira Young Football Club (now defunct) in the FUFA Big League before the it could eventually be relegated at the climax of the 2014-2015 season.

Banda also played for second tier side Kira United until January this season, Kireka United, Kamuli Park and Artland Katale  and had stints in Kenya.

The promising forward-cum-multi talented player also acted as “Larry” in the Ugandan movie entitled “Had I Known” despite not being a main character.

The fallen hero was laid to rest at his eternal home in Kisoga, Mukono district on Saturday afternoon.

Hepatitis B is a serious liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV Virus) that can be easily preventable by a vaccine.

This disease is most commonly spread by exposure to infected bodily fluids, mother to baby by pregnancy, labor, or nursing, blood products among other means.
