Redeployment of LDUs Has Reversed Criminal Activities – UPDF

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has commended the work done by the Local Defence Unit in the shortest time they have been redeployed.

Following the partial ease on the Covid19 lockdown in the country, the local defence personnel had been withdrawn and taken to refresher courses but were recently redeployed and resumed night operations in all parts of the country.

Addressing a security briefing in Kampala on Monday, the deputy defense spokesperson Lt. Col Deo Akiiki said that since their return, they have registered a commendable impact on security especially in Kampala Metropolitan area.

“Since the LDUs that have been trained came back to operations, they have in a very short time done quite a lot of things and reversed the situation which was getting out of hand,” he said

Lt Col. Akiki said that the local leadership with cooperation from locals have been able to detect the criminals that had taken charge and are now going back into hiding, while others have been caught in the operations.

Regarding the discipline of the unit, Akiiki assured the country of a better LDU since they have undergone a refresher course.

“As of now, we have not registered any complaints and if it happens, we want to call upon Ugandans that we’re in this together to ensure we maintain a secure country,” he said
