South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has described his son Andile’s wife, Bridget Birungi as “the most beautiful Ugandan we’ve ever seen”; adding the couple is “deeply in love.”
Ramaphosa was Saturday speaking at the giveaway ceremony of Birungi, 36, to Andile at the former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s residence in Kololo, Kampala.
The event was graced by President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni. As he received Birungi from Mbabazi during the giveaway ceremony, Ramaphosa said they were delighted to welcome the bride to their family.
“We are delighted we are not going back empty handed,” said the South African leader who was accompanied by his wife.
“We didn’t have to go to Lake Victoria but we caught the biggest fish ever imagined,” he added. The strikingly beautiful Birungi wore a dazzling African traditional wedding attire.
Flanked by friends and relatives, Birungi walked elegantly from the plush residence to the tent where Andile was seated with his parents. Andile smiled throughout the ceremony, underscoring what Ramaphosa described as “deep love.”
A visibly excited Ramaphosa hailed Mbabazi for the beautiful gifts handed to his family. They included pots for the bride to keep perfumes, warm water and guards for the preservation of milk.
President Museveni and Janet gently walked from their seats to witness the giveaway. Mbabazi thanked Andile for fulfilling his commitment to return to Kololo to pick his wife and wished the couple a blessed marriage.
Guests are enjoying wines as they listen to cultural and religious music at the event that has attracted powerful people from all walks of life.
