Police are holding their own officer at the rank of Deputy Assistant Inspector of Police for soliciting for a bribe of Shs 100,000 from a cop he was investigating.
D/AIP Ounyu is attached to Police Professional Standards Unit headquarters in Naguru.
The unit handles complaints about police officers’ misconduct.
It’s members are required to be officers of the highest integrity as they deal with cases of misconduct.
But this not appears to be the case considering the unfolding developments at Unit’s headquarters.
ChimpReports understands that Ounyu was arrested on Friday after demanding and receiving a bribe of Shs from a policeman he was investigating for professional misconduct. “A trap was set by the police headquarters alert squad and arrested him. He is currently detained at Jinja road police station,” said a cop who preferred anonymity to speak freely.
Police Spokesperson Free Enanga was not readily available for comment on Sunday afternoon.
A source at police headquarters said several complaints have been filed about corruption at the Professional Standards Unit.
“It’s getting out of hand,” said an insider, adding, “Something needs to be done to arrest the situation. The investigating cops are taking money from corrupt cops. How do you clean the force when those who are tasked for the job are corrupt?”
Ounyu’s fate remains unclear as the matter is kept as a secret.
