Justice Professor George W. Kanyeihamba was on Saturday evening given a lifetime achievement award during the Native Book Awards ceremony held at MacKinnon Suites, Kampala.
The event was held to recognize outstanding authors and writers in Uganda.
Prof. Kanyeihamba together with Mr. Walaabyeki Magoba, an author of 80 books received a lifetime achievement award for the numerous great books they have written.
“When I started writing there was no controversial writer, so I decided to take that direction. If you want to be a successful writer, never fear to put yourself out there and never be intimidated by anyone,” stated Kanyeihamba when requested to disclose the secret of his success.
He went on to encourage writers never to worry about what people may think about them for what they write but to only mind about what God thinks of them.
Prof. Kanyeihamba also donated a sum of Shs5 million towards the campaign of creating a digital Library where people can access reading material easily online.
Ali Balchtiari, the cultural counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran who was present at the ceremony said, “Reading is the pillar of developing any society and books are the most important sources of knowledge so if we can make them easily accessible without someone moving to bookstores will help a lot.”
The event was graced by many dignitaries like former Makerere University Vice Chancellor Chancellor Prof. Ddumba Ssentaumu, Police Spokesman Emillian Kayima among others.
