President Yoweri Museveni has promoted a total of 148 Prison officers to higher ranks.
The promotions are in accordance to Article 172(1) of the Constitution and upon advice from the Prisons Authority.
According to the statement issued by the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr Johnson Byabashaija, these promotions will be effected in different periods of time basing on the ranks.
Among those promoted is Mr. Frank Baine Mayanja the spokesperson of Uganda Prisons who has been elevated to the rank of Commissioner with three others.
Two officers Mr. Moses Wagabaza Kakungulu and David Asiimwe Ahimbisbwe have been promoted to the rank of Director of Prisons.
Mr Ronald Goddie with 21 others were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner for Prisons with 20 being promoted to Senior Superintendent of Prisons and 47 being elevated to Superintendent of Prisons.
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons had 50 officers, making it the rank with the highest number of promoted officers.
