A worker at Pride Microfinance in Wakiso District is writhing in pain after her husband cut her face with a panga, leaving her for dead.
It all started at around 2:00pm on November 7 at Bugembegembe Village, Kasengejje Parish in Wakiso Town Council when a one Juma Mutiri developed a misunderstanding with his wife Aidah Nabuufu, 34.
Juma, who is the head teacher of Kasubi S.S, picked a panga which he used to cut Nabuufu’s face multiple times.
As blood gushed out of Nabuufu’s face, Juma took off to an unknown destination.
“After the incident, the suspect disappeared from their home to unknown place,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire on Thursday morning.
“The victim was rushed by neighbours to Case medical center Kampala for treatment,” he added.
“The neighbours and Police of the area were informed by one of the maids after hearing the victim making an unusual alarm seeking help.”
Oweyesigire says a case of attempted murder vide SD Ref.03/7/11/2019 of Kasengejje Police post has been opened to facilitate investigations.
Cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in recent years.
According to the Uganda Police Force’s annual crime report, gender-based violence cases that were reported and investigated increased by 4% (from 38,651 to 40,258 cases) between 2015 and 2016.
Owoyesigire said a panga containing blood stains was recovered from the crime scene as well as “a piece of timber, hoe and it’s broken handle, and bed sheets soaked in blood.”
He said the exhibits were taken to police to help in investigations.
The suspect is still at large.
