Presidential Nominations: Media Coverage Restricted

The Electoral Commission has restricted media presence at the Kyambogo University Sports Grounds on 2nd and 3rd November 2020 where candidates aspiring for presidency will be nominated.

The Commission spokesperson Paul Bukenya said they had provided for a TV which he did not disclose to do production and broadcasting.

“All national and international television and radio broadcasters who are interested in broadcasting live the nomination exercise are advised to handover their live broadcasting units to the office of Public Relations Officer, Electoral Commission, not later than 31st October 2020, for further delivery to the nomination venue where they will be connected with a live clean feed,” he said.

“Broadcasters that are interested in short videos and pictures of the nomination exercise are advised to provide their email addresses to the PR office: pressaccreditation@ec.or.ug where content will be shared in real time.”

He however added that the Commission has made provision for limited access to a slim number of journalists who are required to present a COVID-19 negative PCR test done in 72 hours at their own cost.

“All media persons who have been cleared to physically attend and cover the nomination exercise will be required to present a 72 hour PCR negative test for COVID-19, which will be taken at their own cost,” said Bukenya.
