Five of the eleven presidential candidates have so far suspended their country wide campaigns in demand for the release of their colleague Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who was arrested on Wednesday this week in Luuka district for violating Covid-19 guidelines.
Presidential candidates Willy Mayambala and Fred Mwesigye who yesterday announced their decision to halt campaigns, have joined General Mugisha, Rtd Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, John Katumba and Hon Nobert Mao in the protest against Bobi Wines arrest and continued detention.
Another Presidential candidate, Joseph Kabuleta, however, declined to suspend his campaigns saying that such an action will not benefit the opposition candidates but will only work in favor of the ruling party, NRM.
“I know for certain that if I was the one brutally arrested, I would have desired that POA and Bobi Wine carry on the fight in my absence. That is why I am not going to suspend my campaigns to try and shame Museveni into levelling the ground, because I know he is incapable of that,” remarked Kabuleta.
Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is expected to appear before Iganga Magistrates Court to face charges related to disobedience of COVID19 preventive directives.
