President Trump Welcomes Uganda’s Ambassador Sebujja to Washington

US President Donald Trump last weekend accepted the credentials Uganda’s Head of Mission to his country, Amb. Mull Katende Sebujja.

The function was held on Friday at the White House in Washington according to the White House Press Office.

Sebujja was appointed to head the Washington Mission and 36 others to other missions around the world by President Yoweri Museveni in January this year.

Ambassador Katende was previously Uganda’s  ambassador  to Ethiopia, Djibouti, IGAD and Permanent Representative at the African Union. He now replaces Ambassador Oliver Wonekha who was head of the Mission since 2013.

While presenting his credentials to President Trump, the new Ambassador Sebujja conveyed what he called “well wishes” from President Museveni to his US Counterpart.

He also assured of Museveni’s “esteem and friendship”  to Mr Trump.

Sebujja went on to promise to work toward strengthening the good understanding and the friendly relations existing between Uganda and the United States of America.

“As Ambassador, I will endeavor to foster and strengthen our bilateral cooperation to greater heights for mutual benefit,” he said.

He said his mandate would focus on finding more markets for Uganda’s products in the USA, encourage American investors to come to Uganda and also encourage American tourists to visit the Pearl of Africa.

Sebujja also reminded President Trump of the existing cooperation between Uganda and the US in stabilizing the East and Central African region and expressed Uganda’s desire to further this cooperation.

“Especially in the fight against terrorism, Uganda remains a reliable and solid partner. So are we with regard to the phenomenon of refugees and internally displaced persons. Additionally, we will cherish to tap into the good practices of the USA.”

At the same event, President Trump welcomed other ambassadors from Russia, Hungary, Estonia, St Lucia, Seychelles, Ireland, Moldova, Sweden and Croatia.
