The South Sudan capital is still engulfed in trauma following the murder of three siblings who were watching TV at their home by a yet to be identified person(s).
The 9-year-old Naomi Edward, 7-year-old Blessing Edward and 4 year-old Nor Edward were all on Saturday found dead in a pool of blood in the sitting room by their mother Gilda Gideon.
Mrs. Gilda Gideon, wife to an Upper Nile University Lecturer, Edward Andrew, left the children watching TV at midday in the house located at the Rock City Residential area only to return at 4 pm to probably the most shocking event of her life.
The crime scene, only 200 meters away from the joint security operations unit in the area, was immediately visited by senior security chiefs in Juba, Gen. Majak Akec; National Director of Criminal Investigations and the Juba State Police Commissioner.
Security is yet to release information on the identity or the whereabouts of the suspect though all the police chiefs promised to make sure the murderer is brought to book.
President Kiir in a statement on Monday said he is equally shocked and saddened by what he termed as the “heartless murder” of the innocent children.
“Like all South Sudanese across this country, I am shocked and saddened by the heartless murder of the innocent children in the Rock City residential area in Juba,” said Kiir.
“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the parents of the children, rock city residents, Juba residents and all South Sudanese who are grappling with the magnitude of this crime,” he added.
The president noted the trauma from the triple murder has engulfed the whole nation, but assured them of justice.
“The pain and trauma inflicted on us by the perpetrator(s) of this crime is enormous, but we, as a country, will prevail. We will work tirelessly to make this criminal pay dearly for this heinous crime,” Kiir said.
He strongly called on the security agencies to commit all the available options to quickly apprehend the perpetrator.
“To this effect, I am directing law enforcement agencies to use every tool in their disposal towards expeditious apprehension and trial of the suspects in this unjustifiable murder,” said Kiir.
