Ugandan powerlifter based in the United States of America (USA), Roy Mubiru claimed a podium finish during the 2020 World Powerlifting Association (WPA) World Championship.
Mubiru won gold during the Championship that was held at Steel Beach Gym, Oakville in Connecticut.
Measuring 125 Kgs, Mubiru participated in the age category of 40-45 years and lifted a total of 1502kgs to win gold at the event.
The powerlifter had initially failed in the Scot and bench attempts but soldiered to win gold in the Seven contest during an event that attracted not more than 100 athletes due to the ongoing global Covid-19 crisis.
Last year, he also won gold at Lutsk event in Ukraine and another gold medal in the 124 Kg Tested Raw Class (40-45 Years) at the World Championships at Bremerton, Washington.
In July this year, he joined a bandwagon of Ugandans in the diaspora who helped out the locally based weight and power-lifters with food following a ban on sporting events in the country.
