Police to Start Snap Checks on Ambulances

Police has said that it is going to commence operations on Ambulances through conducting snap checks and searches on them.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the emergency vehicles have started to be abused by some members of the public.

“We have learnt that there are people who are using ambulances to transport unauthorized items and NOT patients. We are going to start stopping ambulances to check for such items,” said Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango in a statement.

Onyango revealed that they shall start carrying out targeted checks on private and government ambulances at snap check points that will be mounted on various roads in the Kampala Metropolitan area.

“If you see us stopping ambulances, you know that is the reason and the drivers should comply,” he asserted.

Reports indicate that some people hire the emergency vehicles to transport them to the Airport to overcome traffic jam that is always expected on the way.

Others use them to transport illegal goods from the countryside especially smugglers from border districts.

When the country went in lockdown early this year, police impounded a number of emergency vehicles that were found transporting passengers.
