Police Stops Basalirwa’s Party, Tells Him To Hold It In A Hall

Police on Friday informed Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa that his planned victory party this weekend has been cancelled.

According to police, the MP’s party has been stopped due to heavy demands of policing at the end of year festivities.

Police pointed out that it will not be able to avail adequate security for the event of such magnitude in an open ground and location.

Basalirwa had organized an end of year party at Hindocha Primary School Grounds to celebrate his victory in the district MP elections that were held early this year.

In a letter, Police advised Basalirwa to get an enclosed venue like a hall or hotel which would be easier to secure.

“With the adjustments, work together with the territorial police that’s RPC Busoga East and DPC Bugiri and together plan in advance how to secure the event,” reads part of the police letter.

Police action against Basalirwa’s event comes after days when kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was blocked from performing at his concert on Boxing Day.

Efforts to reach Basalirwa this morning were futile as his known phone contacts went unanswered.
