Police Speaks Out On Lubowa Shooting Incidence

Kampala Metropolitan Police has on Thursday come out and said that its operatives collided with their counterparts from a sister agency which led to a fire exchange in Kinonya, Masanafu zone Lubaga division on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that the incident happened because the two security teams were on different missions but in the same area.

“Our officers who were carrying out an operation at Mulunda Stanley rented apartments, mistakenly arrested another team,” reads part of the statement.

Adding that the arrested personnel were on another mission following a suspect on offences of obtaining Shs 52 million by false pretence at Lubaga police station.

Onyango also said that they have finished verifying that the suspects police had arrested were innocent and hence have been released unconditionally.

“Therefore the security personnel aren’t connected in any way to robberies going on in the city,” he said.

In the shootout incident that lasted for almost 30 minutes, one police officer was shot in the leg and rushed to the hospital.

However, police operatives recovered a car, number plate registration UAM 046J and 32 live ammunition.

They also picked two magazines, two Sub machine guns and court documents from the scene.

One suspect only identified as  Mulunda was arrested as his other colleague called Richard Kasirye escaped from the operatives.

Police statement comes at a time when the UPDF just clarified on the foiled attempted robbery at Fang Fang Restaurant in Nakasero recently when SFC arrested four suspects who were said to be UPDF officers.
