The Uganda Police Force has Monday afternoon issued clarity regarding its official website being down for hours over the weekend.
There has been information making rounds on social media that a group of hackers identified as “Anonymous” had hacked the website and took over its control over the weekend.
However, addressing the press on Monday, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said this is not true and the website is still intact but only undergoing an upgrade process.
“It is not true that our website was hacked into as rumours going around indicate. For those who don’t know, our website is hosted in the USA and what we are doing is changing from a static web page to a dynamic web page because it is more interactive,” he said.
According to him, the change to a dynamic web page is because it allows interaction between the law enforcement agency and the public.
“So it is against that background that the website went off yesterday but it is back as we speak now,” Enanga said.
Other social media ‘reports’ also indicated that it was not only the police website that faced threats from hackers but also other government departments communication sites.
