Police Speak out on ‘Kayihura Convoy’ Accident

Police Spokesperson AIGP Asan kasingye has clarified on an accident that occurred yesterday along kapchorwa-Mbale Highway, which according to reports, involved the convoy of Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura.

“We want to clarify that the incident did not at any one time involve the IGP, as speculated in various social media and online platforms,” reads in part the statement by AIGP Kasingye.

Kasingye continues to caution the “media against spreading such unverified and baseless information”, urging the press to “always cross check for details with the office of IGP.”

According to the police mouthpiece, the motor vehicle accident that occurred at around 5pm involved a joint team of 7 flying squad personnel from Bukedi and Elgon regions.

One police officer was killed, while 6 others sustained injuries.

“… the incident occurred when brakes of  motor vehicle Toyota Hiace under registration number UAE 875D failed, forcing the driver to lose control. It over turned several times downhill before it rammed into a tree instantly killing the driver, no. 5694 CPL driver Goona Michael and seriously injured the four other officers,” Kasingye writes.

The injured officers were ASP Osis Karakya, D/AIP Aggrey Okello, NO.5814 D/SGT ssesega R kawowo and DC Mande Tibeijuka.

He reveals that the body of the deceased was transferred to Mbale Hospital for Postmortem examination, while the rest are receiving medical attention at Elgon amd Mbale regional hospitals.
