Police Shoots Busoga United Goalkeeper Obelajo During Curfew Enforcement

Police in Jinja reportedly shot Jinja SS and Busoga United’s goalkeeper Larzarus Obelajo during a shooting spree that took place on Kisima Island of Lake Victoria on Wednesday evening.

The unfortunate incident happended during the enforcement of the night curfew as as security forces attempted to carry out one the directive set by president Museveni in combating the Coronavirus during the extended lockdown.

According to sources in Jinja, the shooting happened at 8 PM on the Masese landing shoreline as a passenger boat left Kusoma Island 1 for Kisima Island 2

Reports say that the shooting happened after a scuffle between the passangers on the boat and the Police officers, leading to the shooting of the Busoga United goalkeeper Larzarus Obelajo who was among the passengers on the boat. The goalkeeper was left injured in the lower abdominal region.

Upon the shooting, Obelajo was carried and rushed by sympathizers to Jinja Hospital on foot as there was no car in sight to facilitate the transportation of the bleeding victim.

Busoga United and Jinja SS director Mrs. Diana Nyago confirmed the development via social media and reassures fans that the player is in a stable condition at the hospital.

“Obelajo is out of danger and admitted at Jinja Main Hospital in Ward 9. More prayers are needed during his recovery period and such trying times,” she noted.

The same scuffle also saw one person dying on spot and has been identifed as an LDU personnel that was part of the enforcement team after an accidental shooting.
