Mutukula Border Security on Wednesday intercepted a huge consignment of explosives that were headed for Uganda aboard a bus chimp corps report.
According to police, Mutukula Border Security Operatives and Customs Officers recovered rolls of detonating cords of 250 meters each, 50 pieces of detonating fuses for the explosives and packets of 100 pieces of explosive gel.
Others in the consignment were cartons of 85 pieces of explosive gel each weighing 25 kilograms, three cartons of white crystal drilling optimization, each weighing 15 kilograms.
In an exclusive interview with Masaka Police Spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi said items were being carried aboard Mwanza Friends bus Reg no. UBA 071K destined to Kampala.
He also said one suspect identified as Samuel Mutima 33 has been arrested in connection with the consignment.
Kigozi added that the driver of the bus also a Congolese National from Jalasiga in Ituri province is being detained to help in investigations on file number SD Ref 19/01/08/2018.
“Upon preliminary investigation, the suspect revealed that he bought the explosives from Geita, Tanzania and was transporting them to Jalasiga, Ituri Province of DRC to gold mining company,” said Kigozi.
It has also been established that the bus was handed over to government security organization and escorted to Kampala for further investigations.
