Police Roughs Up Journalists Protesting Brutality

Police has Monday morning dispersed journalists who had staged a peaceful demonstration against the law enforcement body’s conduct of battering them while they go about their lawful duties.

As a way of expressing discontent, journalists had staged a peaceful match from the Railway Grounds in Kampala to Naguru Police headquarters where they had planned to meet the Inspector General of Police Okoth Martin Ochola.

Amidst the peaceful procession however, they were intercepted and roughed up by Police led by OC Central Police Station Ivan Nduhura.

The officers arrested the UJA President Kazibwe Bashir Mbazira together with some journalists and detained them at CPS.

This prompted more journalists to storm Police demanding for the immediate release of their President.

Officers at CPS succumbed to pressure from the pressmen and released Mr Bashir.

By publication of this, journalists were still staged at CPS demanding to be allowed to march to Naguru to present their petition to the IGP.

The journalists protest was sparked off by recent incidents at Makerere University where Police beat them up as they covered the students riots.
