Police Rescues MP Musasizi from Angry Residents

Police yesterday morning fired teargas and bullets at Hamuhambo town in Rubanda District, to disperse angry residents who mounted road blocks along several roads to block the Rubanda East legislator Henry Ariganyira Musasizi who was coming from Kibuzigye Catholic Church for Sunday prayers from going home.

An eyewitness told ChimpReports that the locals mounted heavy tree logs and stones at Kataraga, Kyaruzumba in Bubare Sub County and Hamuhambo trading center in Hamuhambo town council at around 02pm.

This later attracted the attention of the anti-riot police commanded by the officer in-charge Bubare police post Moses Patho who dispersed residents and removed the piles from the road.

The Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate told our reporter that police were forced to swing in action after realizing that the Member of Parliament was in danger.

He said on reaching the scene, there was no resident who could talk to police on why they blocked the road.

Maate adds that police were hunting for the people who participated in blocking the road.

Hon Musasizi accused his competitor in the Rubanda East Parliamentary race Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema of organizing people to mount the blockade.

However, Biryabarema denied allegations, saying that at the time the incident happened, he was at home.
