Police Recover ‘Illegal Fuel’ Used in Kampala Riots

Security agencies have Friday recovered bulk fuel from illegal dealers in a joint security operation.

The intelligence led operation was conducted by Katwe Police operators and UPDF soldiers against illegal fuel dealers in Kajumbi zone, Nateete Parish Rubaga Division.

A total of 76 jerrycans, 7 drums full of fuel were recovered adding up to 2920 litres.

Authorities at Kampala Metropolitan Police said, “the operation is still ongoing and more is expected to be recovered.”

According to security agencies, this is the fuel suspected to be sold to rioters to burn tyres during riots.

No suspect was arrested in the operation as all of them fled the scene however police said the hunt is ongoing.

Speaking to ChimpReports, KMP spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango said that this should be a warning to people involved in illegal sale of fuel that “the long arm of the law will catch up with them.”
