Police in Kagadi district yesterday stormed a number of private clinics operating in the vicinity of the main Kagadi government Hospital, cheapest closing all of them.
In the operation targeting clinics owned by government doctors at the main hospital, this web police says it impounded government drugs worth millions of shillings.
The operation was commanded by the Officer in Charge of Kagadi Police Julius Jingo.
There was commotion and exchange of bitter words between the clinic operators and police as the former blamed the latter for not warning them in time about the operation.
The police boss Jingo later on revealed that they decided to mount the op following complaints from Kagadi District officials over the existence of private clinics operating within the government hospital.
One of the clinics, dosage it emerged, was formed through a SACCO formed by Kagadi Hospital staff, which the police boss commended but noted that the right procedures were not followed.
Jingo further revealed that the impounded drugs are now at Kagadi police station and that investigation into the clinic operators have commenced.
Our efforts to speak to the Kagadi Hospital Administration were futile as we were referred to the staff SACCO chairman Raymond Tumusiime, who declined our calls.
