Police Issue Stringent Rules for New Year Fireworks

The Uganda Police Force have Friday issued a list of over 700 locations where fireworks shall be displayed during the New Year’s celebrations on Monday, December 31,2018.

Most of the approved sites are located in Kampala Metropolitan area with 237 venues spread across the city.

At least 22 districts across the country shall have fireworks display on the new year day.

According to AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi, five companies have been cleared to import and distribute the display flames.

The companies approved are Tomil fires limited, Sky flames Uganda limited, Quality Lighting limited, Goshem Africa events and Light Africa Uganda limited.

Strict guidelines have also been issued to all events organizers on that day.

Police had asked organizers to widely advertise on both electronic and print media especially local radio stations and television.

“Proof of advertisement in papers on pages 1,2,3 and 4 and must be of a visible size,” reads part of the police statement.


Fireworks is to be displayed for not more than 1.5 caliber.

Director Mugyeni said the area DPCs shall reserve the power to stop the display if “it’s not satisfied with your adherence to the set guidelines.”
