Police in Buikwe District are investigating a private security firm over a gun that was at the weekend found wrapped in a woman’s dress.
The firearm was found stashed in a sugarcane plantation belonging to Lugazi Sugar Factory in Bulyantente Village, Lugazi municipality in Buikwe District.
The Ssezibwa regional police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto, said the gun, registration number UG- PSO-3200889, belongs to a private security organization which she did not name but said is under investigation.
“The gun was found in the plantation by one of the workers who informed the area LC1 Chairman who notified the police.
“It’s an AK47 assault rifle with one bullet; and along it were items used for breaking doors. We suspect it to have been used for carrying out several robberies in the area,” Ms Butoto said.
She added that the dress used for wrapping the gun could have been used to camouflage as woman during robberies.
A police source who preferred anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on behalf of the Force, said the firearm is suspected to have been used for carrying out robberies along the Jinja-Kampala Highway.
