Arnold Ainebyoona Mugisha, the proprietor of Kololo-based Hickory Bar and Restaurant, has died after being shot in the head in Namugongo, Wakiso district on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at 10:30am at quality supermarket in Naalya, Kira Municipality Wakiso District.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire says the guard has been identified as Moses Angoria. He is attached to Saracen security.
Owoyesigire said the deceased and his two other colleagues visited the supermarket for shopping.
“The deceased remained in the car and after shopping, one of the three released a trolley which knocked one of the cars in the parking,” Owoyesigire recounted.
“Then in the process of reversing, the deceased knocked at the foot of one Askari Awaze Babu. This prompted an exchange of words between the two Askaris and the three customers,” he added.
Owoyesigire said Angoria rushed to the centry box where “he picked his SAR gun and shot the deceased at the mouth while he was on his steering in the car.”
The colleagues rushed the deceased to Independent Hospital Ntinda where he died.
The police publicist said CCTV cameras at the mall can’t show the scene but eye witnesses gave an account of events.
Police now say investigations have been instituted into the matter and the killer gun has been recovered.
“The accused was saved from the mob which had beaten him seriously and is now admitted in Mulago hospital for first aid,” said Owoyesigire.
Ainebyoona’s body has been delivered to Mulago hospital mortuary for postmortem..

Cases of guards shooting at customers in public places in Kampala have been on the rise in recent months.
In January 2019, police registered five incidents of private security guards shooting civilians or their colleagues in Kampala City and the metropolitan area.
Five people died and others were injured.
In January, a guard at Nalubwama Arcade on Ben Kiwanuka Street in Kampala opened fire at civilians, killing a woman who was on a motorcycle and injured a Kampala University student.
Police had earlier arrested two guards for allegedly shooting dead two people in separate incidents in Kyengera Town Council and Mbuya in Nakawa Division.
Isaac Okwir, a guard, was arrested on accusation of killing Abubaker Kinene, 56, a mechanic and resident of Kyengera in Wakiso District.
A security guard known as Ronald Lubangakene recently killed Dr Catherine Agaba before dumping her body in a septic tank in Muyenga, Kampala.
