Three suspects have been arrested by Police in connection with the robbery and a subsequent murder at the Mukono based Nile Steel and Plastics factory in which a female staffer was shot dead.
Based on the CCTV video footage obtained by police as well as recorded statements and exhibits, it is said that on Friday last week at 3pm, two unidentified men gained access to the premises of the factory in under the guise of customers. The two then proceeded to the office of the cashier, a female Chinese national identified as Yang Yei Su, 50 from whom they demanded money.
The Police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye told the press on Monday that when the cashier refused to obey the demands of the suspected robbers, she was shot.
“They asked her for money but she refused and a scuffle between her and the men ensued. She was then shot and died on the way to Namirembe hospital,” Kasingye revealed.
Those arrested include; Joseph Naluda alias Robert Kataala, Francis Ogwal (security guard of the factory) and Julius Katongole an employee of the factory. Kasingye said that the CCTV footage showed that the security guard made no effort to check the men before allowing them entry which is why he is a suspect.
ChimpReports understands that no money was stolen in the attempted heist.
“The deceased managed to remove and retain a jacket belonging to one of the robbers. The jacket is being used by our forensic team to trace the owner’s DNA,” Kasingye added.
He said that police has already released the video clip of the suspects and urged the public to disseminate it to assist the police to identity the perpetrators.
