Police of Mityana district has exhumed four human skulls and bones from a shrine in an operation.
According to the law enforcement body, the intelligence led operation in which the shocking exhibits were recovered is aimed at cracking down on human sacrifice practices in the district.
In a statement, it was revealed that nine suspects have been arrested including a native doctor identified as Godfrey Spire Luyombya aged 70 years, said to be the main suspect, a resident of Zigoti Town Council in Mityana district.
The others are; Godfrey Mwebe, Lawrence Kabali, Joram Kalanzi, Carol Nalwoga, Farida Nakakawa and Florence Nalwoga.
Police also picked Hamida Nakasida, Nasikombya Topista, Kabonge Lawrence and Kayiwa Josephati, a juvenile to help in investigations.
The area Police Spokesman ASP Nobert Ochom said that the operation was led by the District CID Officer Mityana and a team of Regional Police Surgeon, Regional Scene of Crime Officer, Regional Fire Officer, Officer in charge of homicide and was conducted in the presence of the RDC Mityana and other Local leaders.
“The crime scene was cordoned off and a search conducted, exhibits of four human skulls, femur bones, Ribs and parts of leg bones were recovered from the toilets and Shrines,” Ochom said.
He added that “All exhibits were conveyed to Mityana Police Station exhibits stores pending labeling, marking and further conveying them to Mityana Hospital mortuary then later to Government analytical laboratories for DNA and other analysis to scientifically be proven as Human body bones.”
Meanwhile the police team is still at the scene for other possible recoveries of more exhibits.
