Police has confirmed arresting the Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake from Entebbe International Airport where he was allegedly trying to flee the country.
The Police Spokesman, Emilian Kayima released a statement on Thursday confirming that Zaake, who is wanted for treason and stoning President Museveni’s convoy, escaped from police custody while at Arua referral hospital.
“Hon. Zaake was arrested on 13th August but developed a condition which necessitated hospitalization. He took advantage of the situation on his own, and or aided by some elements to escape from police custody,” SSP Kayima said, chorusing Museveni’s earlier statements.
According to Kayima, a thorough police investigation later found out that Zaake was booked in at Rubaga Hospital Kampala.
“ Police refrained from interfering with his medical treatment but kept a keen eye on him,” he added.
The Police Spokesman stated that Zaake was on Thursday morning found at the airport trying to “flee” the country and was immediately arrested.
“This morning, Police found Hon. Zaake at Entebbe International Airport trying to flee the country, and accordingly apprehended him,” he said.
Zaake who was still at the airport by 5:30pm, was scheduled to be taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital to ascertain his health status.
“He (Zaake) will be taken to Mulago Hospital for examination and/or further management under police custody,” the statement concluded.
