Uganda Police Force has this week commenced an exercise in which all fire arms and ammunition are being finger printed, Chimp Reports reveal.
The process that involves capturing forensic features of guns and cartridges started on Monday according to police sources.
The exercise will also attach fire arms to their respective handlers, policemen and operatives.
It has been established that the police force has commenced finger printing exercise of firearms to ease its investigations processes especially in murder and other homicide cases that involve guns.
Recently, the country has grappled with assassinations in which police recovers cartridges but struggles to establish the shooters.
When contacted by this investigative website, the Deputy Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango said the ongoing exercise also complements on the fire arm marking, a process that started way back.
He added that finger printed guns and ammunition will help police “To know which cartridge came from a specific gun in case of a shooting.”
Chimp Corps also established that guns in all security agencies will be finger printed with their specific handlers.
Sources also said the exercise shall apply to private security agencies and private individuals with fire arms.
The process characterized by day long gunshots is handled by ballistics and forensic experts in the police force.
