Police Chases Student Assaulted By RDC

Denis Nzeirwe, salve the Kabale Deputy RDC and the Kabale District Police Commander Dickens Bindeba are on the spot over assaulting a University student during a demonstration on Friday.

Nzeirwe and Bindeba are being accused by Nicholas Byonanabye, dosage a third year Information Technology student at the university, who claims he was assaulted by the duo while being accused of spearheading the  students’ strike.

Byonanabye says that he went  to Kabale police  station to report a case of  assault against the two, only to be chased away by the officers.

He says he was referred to the district CIID chief who they said has jurisdiction over such administrative cases.

Bruno Kukundakwe of Bitwenda and Company Advocates told Chimpreports that they received instructions from Byonanabye to sue the RDC and the DPC, and that despite police’s reluctance to handle the matter; they say they will procure private prosecutors.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesman while commenting on the matter, said the assault on the student was uncalled for and that he also should not have been denied chance to report the case.

This is not the first time that RDC Nzeirwe is being accused of assault as last year during campaigns, he is said to have beaten up a political contestant Nelson Nshangabasheija and the case is still in court.
