Police on Thursday charged two of its officers for shooting and killing a UPDF soldier who was guarding the Busia Municipality Member of Parliament, Godfrey Macho.
Police in a statement on Friday said D/ASP Javuru Patrick from Crime Intelligence and Cpl. Chelogoi are responsible for the premeditated murder of Pte. Kakai Ivan in Busia last month.
“It is alleged on 15/11/2020 at Sophia A, Eastern ward, Busia Municipality in Busia District, D/ASP Javuru Patrick attached to Crime Intelligence and No.56810 Cpl Chelogoi attached to Flying squad unit with Malice aforethought caused death to the deceased Kakai Ivan,” said part of the police statement.
The duo was arraigned before the Busia court today and remanded till next year.
“Investigations were conducted and upon completion, charges of murder have been preferred against the suspects, arraigned to Busia court today 10th Dec.2020, and remanded till 7th.Jan.2021,” said police.
Police regretted what they termed as the “unfortunate incident” and assured the public of timely justice.
“Police regrets this unfortunate incident, and assures the general public of our commitment to the dispensation of timely justice with utmost impartiality,” added the statement.
They extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the UPDF.
“Our thoughts and condolences go to the family of the deceased, the UPDF fraternity and the General public,” concluded the statement.
