Police in Nansana on Monday broke into an isolated parking yard and arrested five people suspected to be car thieves and recovered stolen cars.
According to police, the arrested were nabbed while dismantling stolen motor vehicles from Kampala and its suburbs.
In a statement, Police identified the suspects as Joseph Magoba, Willy Kizza, Gregory Luyinda, Henry Matovu and Mustafah Kayondo.
“Acting on information provided to police by the area lookout teams about the suspicious activities taking place in the neighborhood, Nansana Police led by SP. Benard Katwalo conducted a raid on the premises,” said police.
The security agency said that amongst the suspects, four of them were caught red handed dismantling a Toyota Noah car registration number UAR 157N.
In the same premises, police also recovered a Toyota Premio registration number UAK 982B which was reported lost at Central Police Station in Kampala on 29th August.
The car which was already dismantled belonged to a one Joshua Lubega Babulira who said that the robbers stole it from his house at night.
Other items recovered included car accessories, new tyres, windscreens and radio systems.
According to police, the suspects confessed that they dismantled the cars in order to resell them without security detection and evade arrest.
It was established that the dismantled cars are sold to spare part dealers and scrap buyers in town.
The five are currently detained at Nansana Police Station pending charges of cases ranging from stealing moto vehicles and aggravated robbery.
