Aviation police has in custody a Malawian woman drug trafficker who was arrested last weekend with huge amounts of heroine.
According to police, interrogations are still underway to establish the value of the highly intoxicating illicit drug.
The suspect in custody was identified as Elizabeth Mukwate aged 34 years old.
In a statement by the Police Spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima, the suspect was arrested from Ethiopian airlines at Entebbe while in transit to New Dehli in India.
Kayima said the police anti-narcotics department is working hard to crack down drug trafficking in Uganda although there is still lack of a strong law and punishment on drug traffickers.
“We appeal to the responsible ministry to set up a committee where we can forward drug traffickers to help the criminal justice system,” he said.
He added that if the committee is set up, drug trafficking shall be curbed in Uganda.
According to the just released Crime Report by Police, drug trafficking has constantly been increasing by at least 1% since 2016.
