Police Arrest Suspect in Makindye Child Murder

Police in Kampala have arrested the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of a minor that happened in Luwaffu, Makindye division last week.

According to Kampala metropolitan police, investigations have been ongoing to trace for the perpetuators of the heinous act.

On Sunday night, police says, detectives arrested a man who is suspected to have kidnapped and later killed the girl.

The suspect who is currently in custody at Kampala south police division in Katwe has been identified as Mutyaba Banda.

Reports from KMP indicate that according to intelligence gathered from the community, Mutyaba has been a known child abuser and child rights violator in the area.

“There’s evidence that points him out that he has been engaging himself in acts of violence against children and he is a resident of the same area where the body was found,” said KMP spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire

The police mouthpiece adds that there were also two people, a male and female who were seen at the crime site on the particular day the body was recovered but they later on hoped on a bodaboda and were never seen again.

He said that basing on the intelligence that has so far been gathered, police believes that the CCTV cameras in the area must have captured the duo and the footage will enable them to trace and reveal the identities of the two.


Speaking to Chimpreports, Dora Namayanja the mother to the deceased identified as Kirabo Dylan, said that her daughter went missing from her grandmother’s residence located in Luwaffu, Makindye division on Thursday when she was sent to buy curry powder at a nearby shop.

She said that the minor did not return which prompted them to report to police and also publicise her pictures in the area and on social media.

On Saturday, they found her decomposing body in an unfinished building located in the same area and informed the authorities.

Ms. Dora also confirmed police reports to ChimpReports that the killers of her daughter first raped her before strangling her to death.

She described how they found the deceased’s wounded body wrapped in a dirty polythene bag and some body parts missing.

“The killers took my daughter’s teeth, tongue and ears,” she said

Police picked the body for autopsy before it was handed it over to the parents for burial in Rakai district.

The law enforcement body had cautioned parents to be more extra vigilant with their children in order to reduce on similar cases of kidnap and murder which have been on the rise in the recent past.
