Players Abroad: Miya’s Late Penalty Inspires Konyaspor Win

Turkish Premier League

Konyaspor 1-0 Rizespor

Uganda Cranes forward Farouk Miya was heroic in Konyaspor’s slim 1-0 victory over Rizespor in the Turkish Premier League on Sunday.

Miya came on as a second half substitute and converted from the penalty in the 95th minute leading to Konyaspor’s late victory at Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium.

The former Standard Liege target man Miya, started on the bench before being brought on as a replacement for Levan Shengelia.

His spot kick resulted from Rizespor’s Montassar Talbi who intentionally blocked Omer Ali Sahiner’s pass with his hand in the area leaving the referee with no other alternative than point to the spot.

This is Farouk Miya’s sixth goal in the 2019/2020 season, standing as the team’s current leading goal scorer.

The narrow win guided Konyaspor to the 14th position on the 18-team log with 30 points with just four league games left to wind up the season.

Miya will return to action when Konyaspor pays a visit to Gazientep FK on Thursday July 9, 2020 before their final bouts with Instabul Basaksehir, Tranzonspor and Alanyaspor.
