Pictures of American journalist, Christopher Allen who was killed last month in military confrontation between the South Sudan government army and rebel forces have emerged.
One of the photos which is said to have been taken a few days before his demise in Yei State, shows Allen with a camera, dressed in a T-shirt and sports pants standing with armed opposition forces.
Meanwhile in another picture, Allen was stood in front of armed SPLA-IO soldiers in civilian attire.
The government army Spokesman, Col. Santos Dominic while appearing on national broadcaster SSTV, stated that Allen was among the 19 people killed from the rebels side. The government side lost 3 soldiers.
“Christopher Allen, who worked for various news outlets, was killed in heavy fighting in the town of Kaya,” Col. Santos said.
The US Embassy in Juba and the Department of States also confirmed the same development.
“We can confirm that U.S. citizen Christopher Allen died in South Sudan on August 26, 2017 while working as a journalist. We express our condolences to Mr. Allen’s family. The Embassy stands ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. Out of respect for Mr. Allen’s family, we have no further comment at this time,” statement from US embassy in Juba said.
