Residents of Rubaya trading center in Kayenje ward, Bufunda division in Ibanda municipality failed to access road networks over the weekend following the heavy rains, which soaked the murram pathways making them impassable.
Residents are supposed to use these road networks to access the main road that connects Ibanda to Mbarara at Nyabuhikye trading center.
The area LCI Chairman Selestine Asiimwe says that whenever it rains, the road becomes impassable, preventing flow of business due to slippery road surfaces.
Gardens were washed away by the running water, according to the chairman, and the garbage has been swept to the road.
Asiimwe says this is happening because the municipality leadership takes long without grading the roads, and this has seen farmers resort to manual labour to transport their agricultural products for sale.
Denis Tukundane in an interview with this reporter added a voice to the chairman’s words, calling on government to come and to put the roads to order.
Meanwhile the former area district councilor Mr. Felesian Biriho together with the Ibanda municipality aspirant Member of Parliament Mr. Rwaburindore Tarsis Bishanga bought culverts for the bridge, murram and paid labor to make the situation fair.
