Forty five households were destroyed as heavy rains poured down in Busano sub-county in Mbale district, authorities said in a statement.
The ferocious rains that hit the area on an evening of Friday resulted in dangerous mudslides which loosened the soil, leading to rocks on Wanale hills in the said sub-county rolling down onto homesteads.
Plantations and livestock farms were also destroyed.
“The rocks tripped sending a ripple of tens of smaller rocks that gathered momentum and caused destruction,” authorities reported.
The destruction, authorities say, puts scores of people who have been affected at a risk of hunger.
Pictures obtained by this website give an overwhelming and shattering image of the aftermath of the incident; roads were gravely damaged, houses have fallen (those that remained standing have no roofs), and miserable residents were seen registering with Red Cross officials.
We were not able to independently find out the exact numbers of the people in the named households.
