Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat has been taken to hospital after police pepper sprayed him in his car.
Amuriat lowered his car window to speak to police at Muwayo village along the Bugiri- Tororo road when a cop identified as Abraham Asiimwe sprayed his face with pepper.
The FDC candidate’s campaign schedule included Tororo which the Electoral Commission marked as a COVID-19 hotspot.
At Muwayo, police and Amuriat argued over the route to use for his campaign meetings.
This reporter, who was at the scene, says Amuriat’s sight was affected, which compelled FDC officials to insist on rushing him to the hospital.
The development comes at a time police and sister security organs are under fire over use of excessive force against opposition candidates ahead of the 2021 general elections.
