Members of Parliament under Prayer Breakfast Fellowship were on Thursday joined by pro-Israeli Christian leaders in celebrating the independence day of Israel.

The event which took place at Parliament building was presided over by Chairperson Parliament Fellowship, David Bahati who is also the state minister for Finance.

The Christian for Israel regional director for Africa, Evangelist Drake Kanaabo in his remarks during the function quoted Numbers chapter 24, verse 9 in which God promised to bless those who wish good for Israeli nation.

The nation is like a mighty lion; when it is sleeping, no one dares wake it. Whoever blesses Israel will be blessed, and whoever curses Israel will be cursed,” he quoted.

Israel, the only Christian nation in the Middle East, self-declared her Independence on May 14th 1948 but was admitted to the United Nation a year later, on May 11th 1949.

May 14th corresponds with the Hebrew date 5 Iyar (eights month of the civil year) in that year (1948), Yom Ha’atzmaut (Independence Day) was originally celebrated on that date. However, to avoid Sabbath desecration, it may be commemorated one or two days before or after the 5th of Iyar if it falls too close to the Jewish Sabbath.

Yom Hazikaron, the Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day is always scheduled for the day preceding Independence Day.

In the Hebrew calendar, days begin in the evening and for this year, Yom Haatzmaut was scheduled for April 18th –19th 2018.

The celebration was climaxed by cutting of the cake.
