Pupils at KCCA Primary School Kamwokya on Thursday afternoon bore the brunt of street battles between rowdy supporters of jailed MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and police after teargas was lobbied into the education facility.
Some kids collapsed after suffocating on teargas.
The teary children expressed shock that police could drop teargas canisters in their school compound.
Jane Kansiime, the headteacher of the school, said “We’re totally hopeless here”.
She added: “Our gate was closed. Officers fired teargas inside the school compound.”
Kansiime further said the Primary Seven students were doing mock exams when teargas canisters were rolled into the school.
“The whole school got covered in smokes of teargas and everyone had to start running for their lives,” she said, adding, “Exams are already disrupted and I don’t know what we’re going to do.”
Interestingly, Kampala East RPC Michael Musane said he was not aware of firing teargas at the primary school.
“He who alleges must prove. We have not tampered with any primary school or any institution of learning. They’re innocent,” said Musane.
By 4:30pm, the kids were receiving first aid from the school.
