Students from Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono were Saturday afternoon shocked when Kyadondo Rugby grounds washing bay officials decided to exploit the campaign.
According to Priscilla Amongin the guild president UCU, the officials over charged them to access the facility.
“Those people turned against their word, the money they asked for at the beginning was doubled later when we arrived. They thought maybe we were doing the wash for fun,” she said.
Unlike most car washes where cars are washed, here, they were only cleaned by students’ bare hands and scarves, as well-wishers paid.
“Students had to improvise, and people were kind enough to understand our situation and still paid the 25,000 we had asked for. Most of the money was collected from other activities,” said Amongin.
Despite confusion, organizers managed to collect Shs 3.4M in cash and 2M in cheques.
The drive was initiated by students and friends, to save Viola Nagasha.
Viola is Second Year Student of Economics and Statistics at UCU), currently hospitalized at Mulago Cancer Institute.
She was diagnosed with leukemia in March this year.
Viola needs Shs. 108M to further her treatment in India.
