PHOTOS: Bobi Wine Nominated for President; Warned on Processions

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially nominated singer-turned-politician, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine to run for president in the 2021 general elections.

“I Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon being the Returning Officer for nomination of presidential aspirants do hereby declare Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a duly nominated presidential candidate having fulfilled all the requirements of Presidential Elections Act 2015 as amended,” said EC chairman, Byabakama.

The 38-year-old lawmaker was visibly excited as Byabakama asked him to receive his nomination documents.

However, Byabakama warned Bobi against flouting guidelines issued by the electoral body in the conduct of the elections.

Bobi was accompanied by a big number of People Power supporters

“Processions along public roads are prohibited,” Byabakama told Bobi who had earlier addressed gatherings along various stopovers on his way to the nomination venue in Kyambogo.

“As a presidential aspirant, we expect you to take personal responsibility by discouraging your supporters from gathering in large numbers,” said Byabakama as Bobi, who was accompanied by wife Barbie, smiled.

A huge crowd of supporters including Boda Boda riders followed Bobi Wine from his residence in Magere, Wakiso district up to Nakawa – about a kilometer from the nomination venue.

Police, which were escorting Bobi, appeared to have been overpowered by the presidential hopeful’s supporters.

In some instances, police used teargas to disperse the rowdy crowds.

Bobi used stopovers in jam to wave at his supporters lining the streets of Kyanja and Kisaasi.

But Byabakama said Bobi should stop using his car roof to talk people on the streets.

“You can wave to people through your car windows,” said Byabakama.
