The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has issued a fraud alert to the general public over fraudsters that call various individuals and institutions purporting that some members of the institutions have been nominated to the Board of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda.
The Energy Ministry Permanent Secretary Robert Kasande said in a statement on Thursday that the fraudsters purported to be calling from his office.
“I have received information since 29th December, 2020 that fraudsters using a land line telephone number are calling various institutions and individuals purporting to be calling from my office, claiming that I am nominating them or some of these institutions’ as Board Members to the Board of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda,” he said.
“This is to warn the general public that we are not looking for anyone to join the Board of Petroleum Authority of Uganda or any other Institution or Agency under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development,” said Kasande.
Those making phone calls, he said, are fraudsters and called on the general public to be aware in order not to fall for their (fraudsters’) scam.
However, Kasande did not give details of what these unscrupulous people ask for whenever they make the phone calls.
