National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region Captain Mike Mukula has asked all serious politicians to distance themselves from picking electoral forms from pressure groups instead of registered political parties.
While addressing the press at NRM headquarters at Kyadondo Road Kampala, Mukula said that it’s not true that they are worried about People Power as it is being alleged.
He pointed out that the pressure group has just started its journey and it lacks structures.
“People power is just a pressure group. In this multi-party dispensation, you don’t need to associate with groups that don’t bring tangible results. Political parties known and registered by the Electoral Commission include NRM, FDC, DP, JEEMA, UPC and others,” Mukula asserted.
Mukula cautioned aspiring candidates that if they don’t play their politics well, they may end up as independents once they are elected on any leadership position.
This has come a few days after the People Power pressure group has called upon all people intending to stand on their card to pick their nomination forms so that they can choose who to stand on their card.
On June 30, Mercy Walukamba, the head of People Power’s Electoral Commission called upon all those willing to contest on various positions in the forthcoming elections to pick expression of interest forms from their headquarters in Kamwokya.
However, she added that after submitting these forms, applicants will be screened or vetted after which successful candidates will be unveiled to the public.
Various candidates have been picking forms with the recent one being Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleon who picked the forms last week with the aim of contesting for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor.
